About

As a freelance illustrator, Jess revels in creating scenes and exploring light.

Jess C Wheatley is a regional Screenwriter / Production Designer with a passion for world building and concept development and has an inclination towards geekery of most kinds. After growing up in the hinterland behind Byron Bay, Jess completed a Design Degree in Brisbane and a Motion Design Degree in Sydney — where she focused on Production and Pre Production before completing a Masters of Screenwriting at VCA.

With her background in graphic design, illustration, art department, character and set design and a history of creative writing, she finds herself drawn to diverse stories of all genres and enjoys every moment of it.

In 2020 Jess was accepted into the Screenworks Career Pathway Program for her screenwriting, allowing her to observe and notetake for Every Cloud Productions.

Later that year she was selected as one of eight regional mid career screenwriters for the inaugural Screenworks / AiSF ‘Write from Home’ eight week zoom workshop; where she further developed a TV project with New York industry mentor input.

In 2021 Jess was shortlisted for the inaugural SBS / Screen Australia / Screen NSW/ AWG Emerging Writing Incubator.

When not writing or procrastinating from writing around the coffee machine, Jess freelances as a production designer, pitch document designer and storyboardist.
